Schedule III. WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS.  


(A) Generally.
(1) Sixty-day weight restriction on county roads. At all times during the period of 60 days commencing on and following February 15, 1963, and for and at all times during the 60-day period of each and all calendar years thereafter, it shall be unlawful to operate, or to cause to be operated, upon any public road or public highway of the county highway system of Cass County, Indiana, excepting therefrom any of the roads or highways that are included in the state highway system of the State of Indiana, any vehicle or combination of vehicles having a total gross weight, with load, in excess of 14,000 pounds, except and unless a written permit herefor shall have been first obtained from the Highway Supervisor of the county.

(2) Permit procedures. After having obtained from the county’s Highway Supervisor or Cass County, Indiana, a written permit may be awarded by the exercise of sound discretion of the county’s Highway Supervisor upon due application in writing made to him or her, and the permittee may operate upon the county highway system any lawful vehicle or vehicle combination, having a total gross weight, with load, in excess of the limitations weight set forth hereinbefore in this schedule, and being otherwise lawful.

(3) Role of county’s Highway Supervisor. Each and all permittees, with each such separate excess weight so specially permitted, shall operate and move the specially permitted weight load only upon the roads and highways of the county highway system on the route and as directed in writing by the county’s Highway Supervisor in granting the written permit.

(4) Penalty. The penalties for violation of this division (A) shall be those as made and provided for such cases by the laws of the State of Indiana.

(5) Specific roads with weight restrictions. A HEAVY TRUCK is defined as any vehicle or combination of vehicles having a total gross weight, with load, in excess of 14,000 pounds.
(a) Heavy truck traffic on Clinton Street between Cass County Road 25 East and Indiana Highway 29 shall be prohibited.

(B) Weight restrictions on bridges.
(1) (a) It is established, effective as of Ord. 1, a gross weight limit upon the Eighteenth Street Bridge over the Wabash River in the City of Logansport, and that the gross weight limit shall be 10 tons.
(b) All vehicles having a gross weight of more than 10 tons including their load, be, and they are prohibited from crossing the Eighteenth Street Bridge.
(c) The penalty for the violation of this division (B)(1) shall be as is provided by the laws of the State of Indiana for violation of weight limits upon, public roads and bridges.

(2) (a) The gross tonnage weight limit on Bridge Number EE101 shall be established at a gross 10-ton limit.
(b) The weight limit shall be effective immediately upon passage.

(C) County roads restrictions. County Road 500E, from US Highway 24 to US Highway 35, has a 12-ton limit. Appropriate signs shall be placed on County Road 500E notifying the traveling public of the weight limit.
(D) Culvert restrictions. The gross weight limit on the culvert located on County Road 900N, approximately 400 feet west of County Road 800E shall be posted at 10 tons. All vehicles having a gross weight of more than 10 tons, including their load, are hereby prohibited from crossing said culvert.
